The One on Devonshire Shores!
This post is my personal, honest review of The Sisters of Sea View!
The Sisters of Sea View
A Novel by Julie Klassen
When it comes to Regency romance Julie Klassen is one of those authors that never disappoints. A repeat author for our book club, her stories are perfect for Jane Austen and Regency Romance fans . We loved The Ladies of Ivy Cottege – part of Tales From Ivy Hills books and as soon as I heard about On Devonshire Shores series, I couldn’t wait to read it. The Sisters of Sea View is the first of this new series, set in the coastal town of Sidmouth, England. Fans of Sandinton will espessially love this one, as the same town is said to have inspired Jane Austen. So whether you are a member of our online IVI’S READS BOOK CLUB or looking for your the next favorite read, I am excited to review our official June book club pick – THE SISTERS OF SEA VIEW by Julie Klassen.
Book Synopsis & Details
– from the publisher
Some guests have come for a holiday, others for hidden reasons of their own . . .
When their father’s death leaves them impoverished, Sarah Summers and her genteel sisters fear they will be forced to sell the house and separate to earn livelihoods as governesses or companions. Determined to stay together, Sarah convinces them to open their seaside home to guests to make ends meet and provide for their ailing mother. Instead of the elderly invalids they expect to receive, however, they find themselves hosting eligible gentlemen. Sarah is soon torn between a growing attraction to a mysterious Scottish widower and duty to her family.
Viola Summers wears a veil to cover her scar. When forced to choose between helping in her family’s new guest house and earning money to hire a maid to do her share, she chooses the latter. She reluctantly agrees to read to some of Sidmouth’s many invalids, preferring the company of a few elders with failing eyesight to the fashionable guests staying in their home. But when her first client turns out to be a wounded officer in his thirties, Viola soon wishes she had chosen differently. Her new situation exposes her scars–both visible and those hidden deep within–and her cloistered heart will never be the same.
Join the Summers sisters on the Devonshire coast, where they discover the power of friendship, loyalty, love, and new beginnings.

THE SISTERS OF SEA VIEW
BOOK REVIEW
If you are a fan of Jane Austen’s work, Little Women, or regency romances you don’t want to miss THE SISTERS OF SEA VIEW by Julie Klassen. Sense & Sensibility meets Sanditon in a book I couldn’t put down. From the lovely seaside setting and world building to character development and story arc this novel is an excellent beginning to what looks like is to become my new favorite Regency fiction series. I can’t wait to read the second book in the On Devonshire Shores and find out what happens next with the Summers sisters.
“I find we often worry too much about how people see us. When the truth is, everyone else is more worried about how we view them.”
― Julie Klassen, The Sisters of Sea View
Set in the picturesque town of Sidmout, the story speaks of love, family, and strength. It explores themes of starting over, breaking through and overcoming insecurities. Most of all the Sisters of Sea View is about finding beauty and the importance of community. Families come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes people you least expect can become a part of the family and change a life forever. Despite the dificulties they are facing the Summers family unites and takes us on an adventure of growth and self discovery.
“A solitary soul can do little. But together… what lasting beauty we create.”
― Julie Klassen, The Sisters of Sea View
The last few chapters of the book had be smiling throughout. Such a well written and satisfying ending. Viola’s story touched my heart. Sarah’s stength, Emily’s love for books and writing, Giorgiana’s spirit and their mother’s determination to be there for her girls made this a book I will never forget.
