Best Book Club Books for 2023
Don't you just love a good book? Ah, to curl up with a favorite read and get swept away in a beautiful story is a joy worth making time for. Whether you are part of a book club in search of the next month's pick, curating your personal reading list, or a part of our own online Book Club the books on below are worth checking out.
This is the perfect reading list for fans of Historical fiction, Women's Fiction, Cozy Mysteries, Magical Realism, and Romance. We try to pick books that are heartwarming, light reads and sure to bring joy in our lives. We do NOT do horror, true crime, sci-fi, tear jerkers, abuse, erotica, or anything controversial, politically or otherwise. The idea is to escape to a fantasy world that would bring us joy, not anxiety. That is not to say we do not read about serious topics but it all ends well.
Boost your reading life, make new friends, share your joy of a favorite story or just read what others are saying in case something piques your interest. If you would like lively discussions about the books below, interviews, giveaways, virtual tea and pajama parties, quotes, and helpful resources related to the monthly feature, we invite you to join our book club at Ivi's Reads Book Club Facebook group.
JANUARY: THE BOOK OF LOST NAMES
by Kristin Harmel
Starting the year off with The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel. This is Historical Fiction at its best. Inspired by an incredible true story, this beautifully written page turner is a must read. The Book of Lost Names tells the story of a young woman, whose talent for forgeries helps hundreds of Jewish children flee the Nazis. Decades later she is reminded of those days when a book with strange code resurfaces. This empowering read shows the bravery, selflessness and creativity a small-town librarian is capable of. It is a story of how one person can make a significant difference in this world. Read the book review HERE.
FEBRUARY: SOUTH OF THE BUTTONWOOD TREE
by Heather Webber
When it comes to Magical realism, Heather Webber truly has us under her spell. South of the Buttonwood Tree is perfect for fans of Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by the same author. This captivating story pulls on the heart strings and grabs the reader from the first page. This is a story of two incredible women, on a journey to self discovery. It's a story about the true meaning of family and how far we are willing to go for those we love. A Southern fiction combined with mystery, magic and romance it will have you reading well into the night. Find the book review HERE.

APRIL: THE REJECTED WRITERS' BOOK CLUB
by Suzanne Kelman
Time for something funny in April. The Rejected Writers Book Club by Suzanne Kelman is a book about a book club, writers, and the dreaded rejections they all are sure to get at some point in their careers. One of the best book club books, The Rejected Writers Book Club is a story about turning negative into positive, the power of friendships and celebrating failures, as they are the stepping stones to success. MAY: THE LADY OF GALWAY MANOR
by Jennifer Deibel
How gorgeous and perfect for the month of Mother's Day is this cover?! The Lady of Galway Manor by Jennifer Deibel takes us to the gorgeous Irish countryside. This historical fiction romance has been very highly rated both on Amazon and Good Reads and for good reason. Readers are raving about the beautiful scenery, charming characters, cultural insights and lovely romance. Read out book review for The Lady of Galway Manor HERE.
JUNE: THE SISTERS OF SEA VIEW
by Julie Klassen
Austen fans in the house? This one is for you. Our June pick is The Sisters of Sea View by Julie Klassen - the first in a new Historical Regency Romance series titled On Devonshire Shores. The perfect summer read, set in the real coastal town of Sidmouth, England. Jane Austen, her sister, and their parents visited this fashionable resort town in the summer of 1801. It is said that she fell in love there and many believe that the visit inspired her unfinished novel Sanditon (the inspiration for the popular mini-series by the same name). If you like Little Women and Sense and Sensibility, you will love this. Read our book review for The Sisters of Sea View here.
JULY: THE HOUSE OF EVE
by Sadeqa Johnson
I am a huge fan of Sadeqa Johnson's historical fiction, so when I heard about her newest novel coming out in 2023 I simply had to include it. Set in the 1950s in Washington DC The House of Eve tells the story of two remarkable women reaching for the stars and striving for a better life and the sacrifices they must make. The author crafts a riveting, powerful, enlightening tale that is bound to touch our hearts. Read our book review HERE.
AUGUST: THE SECRET BOOK OF FLORA LEA
by Patti Calahan Henry
History, mystery, romance, and wonder collide in Patty Callahan Henry's latest novel The Secret Book of Flora Lea. A beautiful story of two sisters and their enduring connection. When the two sisters are evacuated during WWII, 15-year-old Hazel tries to distract her little sister with a fairytale about a magical land. When little Flora vanishes, Hazel has no reason to believe she will ever see her again. One day she receives a book with the story that only the two of them share. Our August pick comes from the author of Surviving Savannah and will take us to a cottage and a book store in England.
SEPTEMBER: STEEPED IN SECRETS
by Lauren Elliott
In September we celebrate National Cozy Mystery month with ... a cozy mystery! The perfect read to curl up with on those lovely fall days and nights. It's no secret that I LOVE tea and cozies, and dogs, so I could not resist the stunning cover of Steeped in Secrets by Lauren Elliott. It was love at first sight you might say. It helps that the story is set in California's Bay area and is everything a cozy mystery should be and more. A charming coastal town, a tea shop, a mystery, and romance in the air. All we need is a cuppa freshly steeped tea.
OCTOBER: OTHER BIRDS
by Sarah Addison Allen
For October we have a special treat: the long awaited and highly anticipated novel by NY Times bestselling author and master of the craft Sara Addison Allen. Her latest Magical Realism novel Other Birds is a Goodreads Choice Award nominee, and pure magic. An enchanting story about letting go, believing in ourselves and new beginnings. And yes, there are ghosts. It is October after all.
NOVEMBER: THE MATCHMAKERS GIFT
by Lynda Kohen Loigman
How perfect is The Matchmaker's Gift by Lynda Cohen Loigman for the month of Thanksgiving. Stunning cover, beautiful writing, powerful story. It's a heartwarming, captivating story about two women from different eras with a special gift - they can see soulmates in the most unexpected places.
DECEMBER: THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
by Debbie Macomber
One of my all-time favorite books is A Christmas Carol, so when I saw the title of our December pick I couldn't resist. To help get us in the holiday spirit we have The Christmas Spirit by none other than Debbie McComber. With over 200 million copies sold and many, many Christmas movies based on her books our December #1 NY Times bestselling author needs no introduction. In this charming holiday romance, a priest and a bar tender switch jobs until Christmas Eve. How fun is this premise?! It is the latest published novel by the author and I for one can't wait to spend the month celebrating the true meaning of the holiday.
