The titles that ultimately made the list are everything our book club is all about. Furthermore, they are sure to inspire, empower and uplift. We will travel back in time, stand up for justice, solve mysteries and journey on the Titanic.
And so, whether you are part of a book club in search of the next month's pick, curating your personal reading list, or a member of our own online Book Club the books below are worth checking out. This is the perfect reading list for fans of Historical fiction, Women's Fiction, Cozy Mysteries, Magical Realism, and Romance. We try to pick books that are heartwarming light reads and sure to bring joy in our lives. We do NOT do horror, true crime, sci-fi, tear jerkers, abuse, erotica, or anything controversial, politically or otherwise. The idea is to escape to a fantasy world that would bring us joy, not anxiety. That is not to say we do not read about serious topics but it all ends well.
Boost your reading life, make new friends, share your joy of a favorite story. If you would like lively discussions about the books below, interviews, giveaways, virtual tea and pajama parties, quotes, and helpful resources related to the monthly feature, we invite you to join our book club at Ivi's Reads Book Club Facebook group.
JANUARY: THE FROZEN RIVER
by Ariel Lawhon
Starting the year off with The Frozen River by New York Times bestselling author Ariel Lawhon. This riveting read combines two of my favorite genres - historical fiction and mystery and is not to be missed. Fans of Outlander will love this one. From the stunning cover to the gripping story inspired by true events The Frozen River is sure to become a favorite among readers. Set in 1789 it tells the story of Martha Ballard, a midwife and a healer whose quest for justice leads her on a quest to uncover a crime overlooked by the authorities. A powerful read to start the year of with. Read the book review HERE.
FEBRUARY: THE THREAD COLLECTORS
by Shauna J. Edwards & Alyson Richman
I had the pleasure and privilage of meeting Shauna J. Edwards and Alyson Richman during an event titled the Threads that Unites in Dallas, TX, where I was delighted to have my copy signed. As someone who loves history The Thread Collector was sure to make it in my book collection. After listening to the interview with the authors, however, I knew that it had to be on the top of every book club pick. Furthermore, this captivating story pulls on the heart strings and grabs the reader from the first page. Two incredible women with different background united by more than they could have imagined. Finally, it's a story of strength, hope, love and true friendship.
MARCH: THE WOMEN
by Kristin Hannah
In March we celebrate International Women's Day. Growing up in Eastern Europe March 8th was a holiday we cherished and looked forward to. That's the day we celebrated mothers, grandmothers and women in general. That said, this day still holds a special place in my heart. How fitting it is then to feature a story titled The Women. Written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah this engrossing page-turner takes us back to 1965. In a world torn by war a young woman joins the Army Nurse Corp. She is faced with not just the realities of war but the chaos of coming home to a changed world. This is a story of patriotism, bravery, strength, sacrifice and friendship.
APRIL: THE LOST BOOKSHOP
by Evie Woods
Spring is the perfect time for some whimsy so what a better genre than Magical realism with a healthy dose of mystery and romance. Add to that multiple timelines and The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods has it all. Without a doubt one of the best book club picks of all time this captivating read will keep you reading well into the night. Fans of books about books will not be disapointed. I am obsessed with the gorgeous cover and did I mention the story is set in Ireland? A must read!

How about a literary mystery! I am in love with the title and cover of this one. Our June pick is The Echo of Old Books by bestselling author Barbara Davis. Rare book seller Ashlyn Greer she can feel the echoes of its previous owners’ emotions in this whimsical story filled with mystery, romance, and magic. Perfect for book clubs, with so much food for thought. Fans of magical realism, romance, mystery and books about books will love this. This is one of those stories that is not to be missed.
JULY: JUST FOR THE SUMMER
by Abby Jimenez
It's time for a summer romance and there could hardly be a more perfect pick, if I may say so myself, than Just for the Summer by New York Times bestselling author Abby Jimenez. Love, humor, small town, adorable cottage and a private island on a stunning lake. Shall I say more?
AUGUST: THE BLACK BIRD ORACLE
by Deborah Harkness
History, mystery, romance, magic and wonder collide in Deborah Harknes's latest and fifth installment to bestselling and now adapted for television All Souls Series. The Black Bird Oracle is the latest novel and while I usually only feature the first in a series for the book club, I couldn't resist this one. Deborah Harknes is a master storyteller, so even if you have not read the previous books fans of magical realism will love it. For a quick catchup to the All Souls world one could also watch Discovery of Witches series streaming on multiple platforms in the US, UK, and many other countries around the world. Fans of stories about witches, vampires, family secrets and time travel will fall in love with Diana and Matthew's story.
SEPTEMBER: DEATH BY DEMO
by Callie Carpenter
In September we celebrate National Cozy Mystery month with ... you got that right - a COZY mystery! The perfect read to curl up with on those lovely fall days and nights. It's no secret that I LOVE tea and cozies, and cats, so I could not resist the stunning cover of Death by Demo by Callie Carpenter. I also love home renovation, so this one is right up my list of best book club books to read not just in 2024 but any time. It helps that the main character is renovating a historic home, which as you may have already guessed is a dream of mine to own some day. Set in North Carolina this fun, entertiaining mystery is perfect for book clubs and will delight cozy mystery fans.
OCTOBER: A CERTAIN KIND OF STARLIGHT
by Heather Webber
For October, as is tradition, we feature a Magical realism novel that is sure to be uplifting and empowering. Heather Webber is one of my all time favorite authors and her latest novel set in the charming town of Starlight is a must read. A Certain Kind of Starlight is a story about two women who come to see that magic can be found in trusting yourself. They learn that falling apart is simply a chance to rise up again, stronger than ever, and that the heart usually knows the best path through the darkness. Pure magic, this novel is sure to empower readers and remind us that hope and light can be found in the darkest of places.
NOVEMBER: THE EXTINCTION OF IRENA REY
by Jennifer Croft
For the month of November I am excited to feature a gripping mystery story set in Poland. There was no way I would find a gripping, suspensful mystery set in Eastern Europe and not include in the best book club books to read. The Extinction of Irena Rey by Jennifer Croft tells the story of eight translators from different countries who arrive in the pimeval Polish forest to meet with world-renowned auhtor Irena Rey. Shortly after their arival she disappears. Stunning setting, beautiful writing, powerful story. This page turner is a funny mystery that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.
