Book Synopsis & Details

โ€“ from the publisher

In 1920, Annabeth De Lacy’s father is appointed landlord of Galway Parish in Ireland. Bored without all the trappings of the British Court, Annabeth convinces her father to arrange an apprenticeship for her with the Jennings family–descendants of the creator of the famed Claddagh Ring.

Stephen Jennings longs to do anything other than run his family’s jewelry shop. Having had his heart broken, he no longer believes in love and is weary of peddling the “lies” the Claddagh Ring promises.

Meanwhile, as the war for Irish independence gains strength, many locals resent the De Lacys and decide to take things into their own hands to display their displeasure. As events take a dangerous turn for Annabeth and her family, she and Stephen begin to see that perhaps the “other side” isn’t quite as barbaric and uncultured as they’d been led to believe–and that the bonds of friendship, love, and loyalty are only made stronger when put through the refiner’s fire.

Travel to the Emerald Isle for another poignant and romantic story from the enchanted pen of Jennifer Deibel.

THE LADY OF GALWAY MANOR

BOOK REVIEW

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

There is something about Spring blooms, pleasant weather and Mother’s Day that make May one of my favorite months of the year. The mood is light, and I look for ways to bring joy to my life and those around me. When choosing the book of the month for our virtual book club Ivi’s Reads, I looked for an uplifting, women’s fiction featuring a charming setting that offers a bit of romance, history, and inspiration. Enter The Lady of Galway Manor by award winning author of Dance in Donegal, Jennifer Deibel.

I have to admit that I read the first two chapters a couple of times, since I loved them so much the first time around, I wanted to go back and feel the excitement once more. I also wanted to make sure that I didn’t miss a thing. This lovely historical fiction novel delivered everything I had hoped for and then some. It grabbed my attention from the first page with a powerful start that set the tone for a magical story.

No one ever tells the truth about love.

– jennifer deibel, The Lady of galway manor

The Lady of Galway Manor is set in 1920s Ireland and the descriptions of the Galway countryside are enough to make you want to hop on a plane and visit. The story is told using alternate points of view of both Anna and Stephen, making the it quite fun to read. I love most characters, especially Stephen’s father Seamus. A wise, loving, devoted man, who had seen his fair share of heartbreak, Seamus’ is a voice of reason.

“A gem of a novel set in the Emerald Isle. Well done!”

Laura Frantz, Christy Award-winning author of A Heart Adrift

Anna’s relationship with the locals in the Claddagh community was quite special as well. The scenes set in the Claddagh among the locals were some of my favorites. The romance was sweet although there were parts that dragged a bit, but overall, I did really enjoy the story.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Lady of Galway Manor is a charming, light read perfect for an afternoon of reading with a cup of tea and scones. Learning about that time of Irish history, the culture, the local customs and most importantly the people was quite rewarding. I loved reading about the legend of the Claddagh ring, the political realities in Ireland in the early 1900s, the relationship between Anna and her sister Emmaline, and the cozy athmosphere of Shop Street.

Add to all that the romance, friendship, family, community and loyalty, as well as likable characters who change and grow, and you have an emowering novel that feels like a breath of fresh air. Jennifer Deibel writes a poerful story that is great for book clubs, historical fiction, romance and women fiction fans, along with those, who like myself would love to read about anything and everything Irish.
