The Echo of Old Books meets The Lost Apothecary in this evocative and charming novel full of mystery and secrets.

But when a vanishing bookshop casts its spell, these three unsuspecting strangers will discover that their own stories are every bit as extraordinary as the ones found in the pages of their beloved books. THE LOST BOOKSHOP
BOOK REVIEW
Set against Dublin’s backdrop, THE LOST BOOKSHOP is a captivating tale told in multiple points of view and alternating timelines. Evie Woods weaves an engrossing tale about the lives of Martha, Opaline, and Henry, whose journeys lead to a mysterious bookshop, which is a character in its own right. From the vivid descriptions to the well thought out character development and atmospheric prose, THE LOST BOOKSHOP is the ultimate page turner. Especially interesting for me was the idea of a lost manuscript, the mystery of the bookshop, and the connection between the characters.
“it’s better to keep your mouth shut and look stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.”
― Evie Woods, The Lost Bookshop
There is so much to love about this story, but there are also parts of it that can be difficult to read, especially for victims of DV. That’s the thing about great works of fiction – we can get so emersed into the world of the characters that we see, feel, and experience life through their eyes. I was expecting a book about books, a magical bookshop, and a world of wonder, which THE LOST BOOKSHOP delivered. What I wasn’t expecting was the domestic violence angle, as well as mental institution abuse. For me those are difficult, triggering themes to read, as they could be for a lot of readers, I suspect.
Going in with this in mind, THE LOST BOOKSHOP by Evie Woods is a fascinating read. It will stir up emotions and whisk you away to a world where a bookshop could be an escape. Where nothing is as it seems and friends can be found in the most unexpected of places. This is a story of strength, survival, standing up for yourself, and for those who cannot stand up for themselves. It’s a story of love, friendship, legacy, wonder, lost manuscripts, and the lasting power of books.
