Palestine Texas restaurants offer an incredible variety of cuisines packed with flavor and originality. After a fantastic dinner, decadent desserts and impeccable service, the Queen St Grille shot right up to the top of our Must Try East Texas Restaurants list.
To be honest, when we booked our stay at the one-of-a-kind historic Redlands Hotel, we didn't expect much from their hotel restaurant. We expected good food, decent service, and ok desserts. Boy, were we wrong. The Queen St Grille delivered above and beyond our expectations serving some of the best food we have ever tasted and trust me we ordered A LOT.
This post is all about one of the BEST Palestine Texas restaurants - the Queen St Grille.
Bon Appétit!
QUEEN ST GRILLE RESTAURANT PALESTINE TEXAS
First Impressions
As soon as guests enter the incredible Redlands Hotel, they get a glimpse of the elegant Queen St Grille restaurant. We were immediately impressed with the decor and drawn by the smell of freshly baked goods on display in the Meeting Room.
To say that we loved the melt-in-your-mouth banana bread cookies and muffins is an understatment. Mini muffins, chocolate brownies and coconut macaroons were excellent as well.
While tasting the cookies in the meeting room we were greeted by the owner Jean Mollard, who graciously let us sample the Queen St Grille's famous bread pudding, which sealed the deal. We immediately made dinner reservations and boy am I glad we did.
The Ambiance
The Queen St Grille's classic elegance and inviting interior are the perfect setting for a romantic dinner or a family celebration. Beautiful decor featuring local artists, stunning chandeliers and wall scones create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere perfect for fine dining.
The tall windows and transoms throughout the restaurant give a dramatic feel to the dining room. Additional decor elements featured are a nod to both the Redlands Hotel and the restaurant's historic past giving this fine restaurant a warm, nostalgic feel.
Everything from the table decor, and comfortable seating, to window sill candles throughout and gorgeous view create the perfect setting for a memorable, relaxing experience.
The Food
Mouthwatering Salads & Appetisers
Fresh ingredients, house-made dressings, incredible combination of fruits and veggies. Queen St Grill's Ceasar and Queen Dinner salads are a great start to a fantastic dinner.
Ceasar salad has never been one of my favorites, being used to Mediterranean salads, but I am officially a fan. The Queen's freshly made house ceasar dressing was rich, flavorful, and creamy. Paired with freshly grated parmesan cheese and season croutons made this the best Ceasar Salad I have eaten in the 22 years since I've lived in the United States.
What stole the show, for me personally, during the salad round, however, was the local pecans and Pear Vinaigrette used in the Queen Salad. Absolutely incredible. Lovely baby greens with feta cheese and fresh strawberries pared with the vinaigrette were a delight.
We next moved on to the appetizers. The Tropical Coconut Shrimp with orange yogurt dipping sauce was divine. We couldn't get enough of it. Cooked to perfection and rolled in crispy coconut flakes this shrimp is a must try.
Being in Texas we simply had to try the Bacon Wrapped Texas Quail. Served over grits with prickly pear glaze this Queen St Grille appetizer did not disappointed. This perfectly paired, unique combination of ingredients is served in an iron cast skillet and great for sharing.
Fine American Cuisine
Give me steak with Chimichurri sauce any day any time and I am a fan. Cooked to your liking, Queen St. Grille's perfectly seasoned mouthwatering steaks were delicious. Paired with freshly made chimichurri sauce and served with mashed potatoes and veggies, this fine dinner entre was one of my favorite.
A crowd pleaser the Pecan Crusted Salmon is not to be missed. I wanted to pay my compliments to the Chef earlier during the day and got to the kitchen just as Dylan Hogan was preparing the Salmon (pictured above). When done, in addition to local pecans crust, the dish includes a delicious French sauce - pineapple beurre blanc. If you can't have nuts, be sure to try the Grilled Salmon with lovely Mango Sauce. Both Served with rice and veggies, you won't go wrong either way.
Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin with Blueberry Glaze - the name says it all. How often do you get to try something like it? We had to try it and loved every bite. The meat, tender and flavorful, perfectly paired with the Blueberry glaze was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus.
Last, but not least, the Penne Pasta Pecan Pesto with Grilled Shrimp. WOW!!! MUST TRY!. It is so good that this one dish alone is worth driving all the way from Dallas to Palestine, TX for. Never have I ever had this specific combination of ingredients with pasta cooked to perfection and I visit Italy often. Full of flavor, the Penne with Pecan Pesto is a treat.
Stay for Dessert
And then there is desert. Melt in your mouth cheesecake and the best bread pudding I have ever had, are just a few of the sweet offerings on the menu. Pictures or words do not do them justice. You have to try for yourself. I LOVE bread pudding and was so happy not only that it was on the menu but that it far exceeded my expectations as well.
The Service at One of the Top Palestine Texas Restaurants -
Queen St Grille
From reservation to check out the service was on point. Our waitress was very kind, knowledgeable, answered all our questions about the menu and drinks, and checked with us every once in a while to make sure we had everything we needed. The owners, themselves were extremely attentive and made sure the evening was as pleasant as it could be, and all tables are tended to.
The thoughtfully designed menu and excellent service were just the beginning. The scrumptious food, decadent desserts, amazing sauces, and fresh ingredients make this East Texas restaurant one of the best we have ever had the pleasure of dining in. The incredible kitchen team including Chef Joe Massa, Dylan, Nick and Zaq Hogan, to name a few, relish making from scratch all the sauces and use only the freshest, mostly locally sourced, ingredients for their signature dishes and it shows.
Having lunch, dinner or a special event at the restaurant is not all that the Queen St Grille offers. Should you decide to stay at the beautiful Historic Redlands Hotel, you can opt for a room service. Enjoy a breakfast with a view on your balcony or inside one of their custom decorated, fully equipped suites. The charcuterie board we tried had an excellent mix of savory and sweet options, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Grab some food from Queen St Grille to go and enjoy a romantic picnic in nature at one of the many stunning spots in and around Palestine, TX. Both Upper and Lower City Lake Parks are some of my favorites. Gorgeous views, relaxing atmosphere, refreshing food and beautiful memories.
I firmly believe that making time for mindful experiences, and slowing down to smell the roses, or the water lilies in this case, is extremely important for our well-being. This is one easy, tasty, and fun way to do it!
Final Thoughts

Whether you need a weekend getaway with the family, or a romantic road trip with your loved one you are in for a treat. A moment to be cherished and enjoyed with those most important to you. It is a celebration of seasonings, ingredients, and creativity. It is, after all, an art and let me tell you, the chefs at the Queen St Grille, are true artists.
